Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Netherlands, Her Excellency Ambassador (Dr.) Eniola Ajayi and her colleague Her Excellency Opunimi Akinkugbe, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Greece attended the meeting of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Athens, Greece. The third meeting of the joint process to account for persons missing as a result of Migration in the Mediterranean region.
About 85 countries have been identified in this group and it is believed that up to 15% of the 22700 people who have died on this route since 2014 are Nigerians. Ambassador Thomas Miller, the Chairman of ICMP led the discussion While H.E. Mr Heinz Walker, the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Netherlands gave the opening statement while the welcome address was delivered by Mr Notis Mitarachi, Minister of Migration and Asylum of Greece.
The two Nigerian Ambassadors later attended the inaugural meeting of female Ambassadors at the residence of the Ambassador of Portugal to Greece.
To round up her visit and valuable contributions at each of these meetings, Amb (Dr.) Eniola Ajayi met with the staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Athens.
