The Nigeria Minister of Interior in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the launching of a new four-page Nigeria Temporary Passport (NTP) to cater for Nigerians desirous of returning home but whose national passport is not available.
2. The new ICAO-compliant 4-page Temorary ePassport replaces the Paper-based Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC) issued to Nigerians in Diaspora desirous of returning home but don't have regular Standard Passport. The electronic temporary Passport has all the features of the Standard Passport but serves for only one-way journey back home.
3. Speaking at the event, the Minister stated that the 30-day validity Passport will address the concerns of Nigerians abroad who have urgent need to return home as well as those who are being returned home by their host countries but don't have valid Passport.
4. In his remarks, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service noted that the introduction of the document is another way of engaging with the Diaspora population with a view to addressing their emergency travel needs stressing that the document can be issued to applicants irrespective of age.
5. The blue Nigeria Temporary Passport (NTP) is not a replacement for the green Nigeria Standard Passport and will be formally invalidated after applicant's arrival in the Nigeria Immigration Checkpoint.
