Nigeria Visa Procedures

               



This page describes the Nigeria visa procedures on the applicant's side and on the side of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Before you explore these visa procedures, you should already be familiar with the basic requirements for each regular type of visa : TransitTourist , Business , TWPSTR and Official / Diplomatic Visa. Note that the procedures for e-Visa and Visa on Arrival (VoA) are different.

 

Basic Visa Procedure

The following procedure applies to most Nigeria visa classes in SVV, TRV and PRV.

Visa Applicant

Steps 3, 7, 8, 9 and 10 may not apply to e-Visa . The aforementioned stages except #9 may not apply for Visa on Arrival 

  1. Decide on the Visa

    First confirm if you need a visa for your purpose. As stipulated in the latest Visa Policy, some passport nationals indicated here can visit Nigeria for up to 90 days without a need for prior visa application. If visa is needed, you should verify what type of visa is most suitable for your purpose. Details on the Visa Categories here.


  2. Gather Requirements

    Prepare all required documents for the particular visa chosen. Basic requirements that apply to most visas are :

    • Travel Document valid for 6+ months with at least 2 blank pages.
    • Documentary Evidence of Sufficient Funds.
    • Address of Host in Nigeria or Evidence of Hotel Reservation.

  3. Email Requirements to the NIS
    This step applies only to Temporary Work Permit (TWP) applicants.
  4. Complete Online Application.
  5. Affix 2 Passport sized Photographs.
    Standard (35/40mm) with white background with neither head covers nor face covers.
  6. Complete Online Payment.
    • Use registered Payment Card to complete the payment.
    • Print out the Payment Receipt/Slip.
     
  7. Submit Application.
    With the completed form and attached requirements to the Nigerian Mission or Visa Application Center. This step is unnecessary for e-Visa or VoA.
  8. Visa Interview.
    There might be a scheduled interview depending on the visa type and/or if it is the first time you apply.
  9. Biometric Capturing.
    Your fingerprints and face may be captured in the visa process depending on the visa application channel.
  10. Collection.
    Depending on which Mission location was selected for the visa processing, collection may be done either on appointment, or on specified days of the week.

Note: If your Payment card does not work, it supposedly means the fraud prevention measures of our government are working. Do not worry. Contact the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) or its Third-Party Payment Gateway Contractor to register your card before the transaction, or to consult a credible Nigerian Visa Agent with already registered cards to complete the payment stage.
